Professional Bio
Miles Basil, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He has an interest in general gastroenterology as well as diseases of the small intestine including celiac disease and small bowel bleeding.
His past research investigated potential serum markers for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), social media use in patients with IBD, and most recently the use of novel technology (mucosal integrity) to measure inflammation in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
Currently Dr. Basil is a member of the Center for Human Nutrition which is a multidisciplinary and comprehensive center that specializes in the care of patients with nutritional ailments including celiac disease. Additionally, Dr. Basil works with patients who require small bowel endoscopy techniques such as video capsule endoscopy and balloon enteroscopy.
