Professional Bio
Patty W. Wright, MD, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). She completed an internal medicine residency and infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Wright is an active clinician at VUMC with a focus in the treatment of orthopedic infections. She has served in many key roles while on faculty at VUMC, including Medical Director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic (2002-2012), Program Director of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training Program (2007-2015), Director of the Adult Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (2009-2016), Associate Division Director for Clinical Affairs for the Division of Infectious Diseases (2013-2021), Executive Medical Director for the Medicine Patient Care Center (2013-2018), and Executive Medical Director for the Vanderbilt Specialty Pharmacy (2015-2021). In 2021, she began serving as the VUMC Chief of Staff for Adult Ambulatory Services in Davidson County, and in 2023, transitioned to her current role of Chief Medical Officer for Adult Ambulatory Clinics. She has co-authored multiple manuscripts in infectious diseases, with a focus on antimicrobials, fungal infections and orthopedic infections. Dr. Wright has served many key leadership roles in national organizations, including as the Association of Specialty Professors President (2016-2017), a member of the Alliance of Academic Internal Medicine Board of Directors (2015-2018), and co-director of the Infectious Diseases Society of America Vincent A. Andriole Infectious Diseases Board Review Course (2014-2021)
