Professional Bio
Pete Fong MD, FACC, FSCAI, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, section of Interventional Cardiology and medical director of inpatient cardiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He obtained his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He trained in internal medicine at the University of Washington and cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In 2007, Dr. Fong joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Clinically, Dr. Fong is a consultant for patients with ischemic heart disease and peripheral arterial disease and performs simple and complex coronary, peripheral, and pulmonary embolism (PE) interventions in the cardiac procedural lab where he and his partners are training the next generation of interventional cardiologists. As an attending on the in-patient cardiology service at a quaternary care center, Dr. Fong helps to manage complex cardiac patients while training internal medicine residents in the sub-specialty of cardiology. Dr. Fong is the Director of the Interventional Pulmonary Embolism and PE response team (PERT). As a peripheral vascular specialist, Dr. Fong has been the principal investigator (PI) at Vanderbilt for multiple trials involving catheter based therapies for pulmonary embolism and debulking therapies for cardiac masses including vegetations and thrombus. He has been the PI for multiple renal denervation trials which is a novel catheter based strategy for the treatment of hypertension.
