Professional Bio
Bobo Tanner, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He received his AB degree from Harvard University and received his medical degree from Wake Forest University. He completed internship and residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and completed fellowships and board certification in rheumatology and in allergy/immunology. Afterwards her was a Registrar in the Department of Rheumatology at the Royal Free Hospital, London, England where he participated in scleroderma studies. In 1990 he co-founded the Vanderbilt Arthritis and Joint Replacement Center in conjunction with the Dept of Orthopedic Surgery. In 1994 he started the Vanderbilt Osteoporosis Clinic as part of the Rheumatology Clinic. In 1997 he was a co-founder of the Vanderbilt Asthma Sinus Allergy Program, where continues to see patients. He was recognized as the Clinician of the Year from International Society for Clinical Densitometry in 2007 and with the President's Award from the Tennessee Rheumatology Society in 2017. His professional membership and service includes a Fellow of American College of Physicians, Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology, member of the Royal Society of Medicine, and the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy & Immunology, past board member of the Tennessee Rheumatology Society, past president of the Tennessee Allergy Society and past president of the International Society for Clinical Densitometry. Dr. Tanner is a Certified Clinical Densitometrist (CCD) and currently works on the ISCD Education Council where he updates and teaches the CME Bone Density Courses throughout the year. He is on the editorial board for the Journal of Clinical Densitometry and Therapeutic Advances in Musculoskeletal Disease.
