Professional Bio
Sean G. Hughes, MD is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Director of the Cardiac MRI?Laboratory, and Director of the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.?
He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Florida and obtained his medical degree at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He trained in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University and completed his fellowship in cardiovascular medicine and advanced imaging at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital at?Harvard Medical School.?
Dr. Hughes has received numerous VUMC Patient Experience Awards in recognition of outstanding performance and commitment to service excellence and has been voted the Noninvasive Teacher of the Year by the VUMC cardiology fellows on multiple occasions.?
His clinical interests include multimodality cardiac imaging, echocardiography, and valvular heart disease.?His teaching stresses the importance of deep thinking and diagnostic mystery solving through the thoughtful review of cardiac imaging.?He has served as a primary clinical and research mentor for many graduates of the Vanderbilt cardiology fellowship program.
Dr. Hughes is the author of numerous?peer-reviewed original manuscripts with a primary focus on the utility of cardiac MRI in the diagnosis and management of various cardiovascular diseases.?His clinical practice is based in Williamson County where he has lived with his family since 2004.?
