Professional Bio
Shichun Bao, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
She received her medical degree from Shanghai Medical University in China. She continued her education at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana, received a PhD degree in Physiology. She subsequently worked as a post-doctoral fellow and clinical associate at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, focusing on diabetes clinical research and clinical trials. Dr. Bao completed her internal medicine residency training at the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. She then completed her Endocrine fellowship training at Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Bao has been a clinical faculty at Vanderbilt University Medical Center since 2005 and has served as the Vanderbilt Diabetes Technology Program Leader since 2017. She has a very busy clinical practice, with special interest in diabetes technology and diabetes care. She also conducts clinical research, has been the principal investigator of multiple diabetes drug trials and diabetes technology devices (insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring) trials, in both outpatient and hospital settings.
