Professional Bio
Somedeb Ball, MBBS, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is a clinical and translational investigator specializing in myeloid hematologic malignancies, particularly Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) and Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Dr. Ball completed his medical school training at Burdwan Medical College and went on to do his Internal Medicine Residency at Medical College Kolkata in India. In the United States he completed his residency in internal medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and subsequently obtained fellowship training in hematology and oncology at the University of South Florida and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute. Dr. Ball’s research focuses on the understanding of molecular pathogenesis, identifying prognostic implications of specific genomic alterations, and developing novel targeted therapies for patients with myeloid malignancies. He has authored several peer-reviewed publications in leading medical journals and presented his research at national and international meetings. For his impactful research contributions, Dr. Ball has received multiple merit awards from the American Society of Hematology (ASH), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and Society of Hematologic Oncology (SOHO). In 2022, his research in AML was awarded the prestigious ASCO Young Investigator Award by the Conquer Cancer Foundation.
