Professional Bio
Wei Chen, MD, PhD, is a Research Associate Professor of Medicine within the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Chen received her MD, Master of Genetics, and PhD degree from Harbin Medical University in China. She then worked at Emory University as a Research Fellow and as Research Instructor. In 2011, Dr. Chen was recruited to Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a Research Assistant Professor. In 2017, she was promoted to Research Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology. Dr. Chen’s research program focuses on the role of immune system in hypertension. Dr. Chen has worked closely with Dr. David G. Harrison studying critical roles of innate and adaptive immunity in the genesis of hypertension. Dr. Chen is skilled in examining T cell proliferation and polarization involved in hypertensive inflammation in both mouse models and human patients. She also discovered a novel role of isoketal- adducted protein called isoLG in hypertension. Dr. Chen has authored or co-authored more than 70 publications. She provides tutoring to more than 20 trainees and faculty members in hypertension research skills including mice models and human samples. Dr. Chen has a pivatol role in the ongoing research of hypertension and the immune system.
