Rheumatology and Immunology

Eight Department of Medicine faculty are among the 27 new members elected to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine's Academy for Excellence in Clinical Medicine.

The award honors employees across Vanderbilt Health who act with compassion and excellence to provide an exceptional experience for patients and their families, by patients and families.

Annet Kirabo, DVM, MSc, PhD, associate professor of Medicine (Genetic Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology), has been apppointed director of the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies Center of Excellence (FCE) at VUMC. Rachel Bonami, PhD, assistant professor of Medicine (Rheumatology and Immunology), will serve as associate director of the Vanderbilt FCE.

Dr. Balser, President and CEO of VUMC and Dean of VUSM, said the emeritus distinction is bestowed on faculty who “have served the university with distinction and deep abiding commitment to their fields.”

John Sergent, MD, Professor of Medicine (Rheumatology and Immunology), who first came to Vanderbilt as an undergraduate student in 1959 and has left an indelible imprint on the University and Medical Center as a student, resident, faculty physician and leader every decade since, is retiring on April 30
