Professional Bio
Barbara Carranza Leon, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She received her medical degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima Peru, completed her internal medicine residency at UT Southwestern, in Dallas Texas and she completed her fellowship in Endocrinology at Mayo Clinic. Her two areas of interest and of clinical practice are obesity medicine and management of complex cholesterol disorders. Dr. Carranza Leon is a co-investigator on lipid related clinical trials. Her qualities as an educator have been recognized as she has received the William D. Salmon Teaching Award from the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at VUMC.
