Professional Bio
Barinder "Ricky" Hansra, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
He grew up in the central valley of California and completed his undergraduate degree in biological sciences at the University of California Davis. He completed medical school at Ross University School of Medicine, then took his passion for clinical medicine to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. After completing his internal medicine training, he stayed to complete his cardiology fellowship. During this time, he served as chief cardiology fellow and continued to develop clinical interest in cardiac critical care and cardio-obstetrics.
Dr. Barinder completed his critical care fellowship at Stanford University, then took a full time faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. His clinical interests there included working in the CICU where he enjoyed taking care of patients with cardiogenic shock, life-threatening arrythmias, and acute coronary syndromes. He also worked in the cardio-thoracic intensive care unit with patients who have had heart or lung transplants, required ECMO, and many other post-operative patients.
He continues to be a champion of education, and was recently awarded faculty educator of the year by the Critical Care Department and has been asked to speak nationally. He sees critically ill patients at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and serves as an Associate Program Director for the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program.
