Professional Bio
Brent Ferrell, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
He investigates clonal disorders of hematopoietic cells, from clonal hematopoiesis (CH) to myeloid malignancy (MDS and AML). He uses primary patient samples, in vivo, and in vitro models to understand changes in mutated cells and their unmutated counterparts within the bone marrow and blood. Key interests that drive his work include (1) understanding the cell intrinsic changes in mutated cells (2) extrinsic forces in the microenvironment that select mutant cells and (3) how these effects coalesce to promote malignant transformation.
Dr. Ferrell's laboratory relies on team work and collaboration to link basic scientific discoveries to translational opportunities.
