Professional Bio
Brent Rexer, MD, PhD, is a clinician-scientist specializing in the medical treatment of breast cancer. His research focuses on understanding the connection between increased risk of breast cancer recurrence and obesity and metabolic syndrome.
Dr. Rexer has a particular interest in testing whether dietary changes that improve metabolic syndrome in patients can impact signaling pathways in breast tumors to make tumors more responsive to treatments and improve long-term breast cancer outcomes. He has extensive laboratory-based experience investigating mechanisms of resistance to targeted breast cancer therapies and the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway in particular. He is currently active as an investigator on a number of clinical trials for all stages of breast cancer.
Dr. Rexer's current work is funded by the American Cancer Society and the National Institutes of Health. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine, and he also holds certification by the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Obesity Society.
