Professional Bio
Carole Bartoo, MSN, AGPCNP-BC, GS-C, is a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner in the Division of Geriatric Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, an Instructor of Nursing at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, and a research nurse practitioner at the Vanderbilt Center for Quality Aging.
Bartoo completed her MSN at the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing after serving many years as a medical journalist in broadcast news and senior communications officer at VUMC's Office of News and Communications. As an Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner, she was among the first in the nation to earn the Gerontological Specialist Certification (GS-C) in 2018. Her clinical practice focuses on the care of long-term care residents in nursing facilities.
As a research nurse practitioner at Vanderbilt's Center for Quality Aging, she has had the opportunity to work on multiple research/quality improvement projects, especially in transitions of care and deprescribing in the high-risk elderly population. She served as an NP QI Advisor to multiple nursing homes from July 2021 to April 2023 as part of the Vanderbilt Center for Clinical Quality and Implementation Research's project on Nursing Home Quality Improvement.
Bartoo's principal interest is in furthering the understanding of the multi-faceted complexities of a continuum of care and the significant challenges facing nursing facilities today, and in supporting efforts to provide high-quality care to vulnerable older adults.
