Professional Bio
Christine Micheel, PhD, PMP, is a Research Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, Department of Medicine, and Portfolio Manager for Precision Oncology Initiatives at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. Her career mission is to improve the lives of cancer patients and their families using her skills and experience across research, data-sharing, clinical informatics, clinical operations, science policy, and project management. In her roles at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Dr. Micheel leads the operations and development of the My Cancer Genome precision oncology knowledge resource, cancer genomic data-sharing initiatives like VICC's participation in AACR Project GENIE, and precision oncology-focused resources such as the molecular tumor boards, precision oncology clinic, and molecular testing best practices. She joined Vanderbilt in 2011 and obtained her Project Management Professional certification in 2015. Prior to moving to Nashville, Dr. Micheel spent four years at the Institute of Medicine in Washington, DC, in the National Cancer Policy Forum (NCPF) and Board on Health Care Services. Prior to her work at the IOM, she held a postdoctoral position at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California, where she studied interactions between biomolecules, such as DNA and antibodies, and nanomaterials. She completed her PhD in chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, with the support of a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Predoctoral Fellowship; her research was focused on nanobioscience.
