Professional Bio
Cristian J. Chandler, PhD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Research topics include HIV testing, biobehavioral HIV prevention and HIV care. He has a particular interest in using population-focused, community-engaged methods in his research.
Dr. Chandler received his bachelor's degree and his master’s degree in public health from the University of South Florida. He completed his PhD in behavioral and community health sciences at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health and completed postdoctoral fellowships in epidemiology at Emory University and infectious diseases and microbiology at the University of Pittsburgh.
He has been published in leading journals such as AIDS and Behavior, JAIDS, Archives of Sexual Behavior and the Journal of Sex Research. Dr. Chandler is also visiting research faculty in the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS (CIRA) at Yale University. His current funding focuses on HIV Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) modality preferences, HIV PrEP uptake, and HIV PrEP navigation in middle Tennessee.
