Professional Bio
David A. Schwartz, MD, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He founded and currently serves as the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at VUMC.
He received his postgraduate training at the Mayo Clinic, where he completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology, and advanced training in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and endoscopic ultrasound. He is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterological Association.
His editorial experiences include serving as a Section Editor for the IBD journal (2006-2014), Associate Editor for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (2014-2015), and he served as the Select Summary Editor for Gastroenterology (2015-2022). He has lectured extensively throughout the United States and has written more than 300 articles, book chapters, and abstracts.
Dr. Schwartz's research has focused on clinical trials for inflammatory bowel disease, imaging of inflammatory -bowel disease, the multidisciplinary care of the IBD patient, and the treatment of perianal Crohn's disease.
