Professional Bio
Debra Dixon, MD, MS, is a physician-scientist and non-invasive cardiologist with a focus in cardiovascular imaging. Her clinical and research efforts center on the promotion of cardiovascular health and prevention of cardiovascular disease. Her ongoing research is dedicated to investigating and addressing social determinants of heart failure risk with the goal of mitigating disparities in heart failure incidence and outcomes in socioeconomically disadvantaged and historically marginalized populations.
Dr. Dixon graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a Robertson Scholar. She earned both her medical doctorate and Master of Science in Clinical Research from the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. She completed a Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Fellowship during her undergraduate medical training, and completed an Internal Medicine residency and a Cardiovascular Medicine fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center as part of the Harrison Society ABIM Research Pathway. Dr. Dixon completed a T32 postdoctoral cardiovascular research fellowship and an American College of Cardiology/ Association of Black Cardiologists Bristol Myers Squibb Research Fellowship.
Dr. Dixon has been recognized for her leadership, service, and scholarship with prestigious awards including the Levi Watkins Jr, MD Housestaff Award; induction into Alpha Omega Alpha; and the Harrison Society Elliot V. Newman, MD Award. She is passionate about enhancing workforce diversity and reducing disparities to achieve equity in cardiovascular care.
