Professional Bio
Fabien Maldonado, MD, MSc, is a Professor of Medicine and Thoracic Surgery in the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a secondary appointment as Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Vanderbilt University. He is also a core faculty member of the Vanderbilt Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society. Dr. Maldonado received his MD from the University of Dijon, France and completed a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Upon completion of his fellowship, he pursued an interventional pulmonology fellowship in Marseilles, France. He also completed the Center for Translational Science Activities (CTSA) Postdoctoral Certificate Program at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and a Master of Philosophy of science and Religion at the University of Edinburgh, UK. His research interests include biomarker discovery and the evaluation of novel minimally invasive diagnostic techniques for lung cancer. He leads the Vanderbilt Interventional Pulmonary Research lab and co-leads the MASLAB with funding from the National Institutes of Health.
