Gus was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee and attended the University of Tennessee (Go Vols!) for undergrad. He then joined the MD-PhD program at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, where he completed his PhD in Healthcare Policy. His graduate work leveraged clinical trial and behavioral economic methods to study the abuse liability of tobacco products and inform FDA regulation, shaping his interest in a career in Addiction Medicine as a physician-scientist. After completing an M4 away rotation in Medical Oncology at Vanderbilt, Gus is thrilled to be joining the VUMC Internal Medicine program and Harrison Society. He is married to a native Nashvillian, and together they have a miniature dachshund, Sheruff, named after Peyton Manning. In his free time, he enjoys live music, BBQing, and cheering on the Vols, Titans, Braves, and Nashville SC, as well as playing golf (both ball and disc) and baseball.
