Professional Bio
Harvey Murff, MD, MPH, is a Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and a researcher in the VA Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System. He holds the Grant R. Wilkinson Directorship.
He completed an Internal Medicine residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, where he served as Chief Medical Resident. He then went on to complete a fellowship in General Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, where he also obtained his master's degree in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Murff's research interests include improving the quality of care for older adults in the outpatient setting, nutritional and cancer epidemiology, and the impact of polyunsaturated fatty acids on inflammation. He has received support for his research from the National Institutes of Health, PCORI, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
He is the author of over 130 manuscripts and book chapters. He is a standing member of the Cancer Prevention, Screening, and Health Promotion Peer Review Committee for the American Cancer Society and a Deputy Editor for the journal ACP Journal Club. Dr. Murff currently serves on the Medical Advisory Board for Fight Colorectal Cancer.
Dr. Murff's clinical practice includes serving as an attending physician on the Acute Care for Elders unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and as a preceptor for VUMC Internal Medicine residents and the VA Continuity Clinic.
