Professional Bio
Hui Cai, MD, PhD, is a Research Associate Professor of Medicine within the Division of Epidemiology, Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Cai received his MD from Nantong Medical College and PhD from West China University of Medical Science. In 2002, Dr. Cai was recruited to Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a Research Fellow. In 2018, he was promoted to Research Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Epidemiology. Dr. Cai’s major scientific interest focuses on the association between nutrients and biomarkers and some cancers. Since 2018 he has authored or co-authored more than 60 publications. Many of them were published in high impact journals, such as Nature Communications, Annals Oncology, Diabetes Care, and the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. As a statistician and co-investigator, he also joined in multiple grant applications (such as CA713301, CA183021 and CA174853) and several large consortium studies, such as Asia Cohort Consortium (ACC), Helicobacter pylori blood biomarker for gastric cancer risk in East Asia (HpBCC) and the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Screening Study. Dr. Cai is invited as an editor and manuscript reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals. He also provides statistical training for visiting scholars, post-doctors and PhD candidates in the Vanderbilt Epidemiology Center.
