Professional Bio
Jacob Hathaway, MD, MPH, is a general internal medicine physician with training in implementation science, quality improvement, and public health. His work has focused on developing new systems of care in primary care medicine to improve patient safety and quality of care. He is a clinical educator with a role in clinical practice, education, and clinical operations and his clinical practice and teaching is focused on outpatient primary care for a diverse population of veterans. Dr. Hathaway has a particular interest in the care of patients with unique outpatient needs including transgender patients, patients at risk for homelessness and high utilizers of inpatient and ER care.
As Chief Quality Officer for Primary Care at the VA Tennessee Valley Health Care System (TVHS), Dr. Hathaway's work focuses on developing coordinated systems of care in the primary care clinical environment. As Associate Program Director for the Vanderbilt Internal Medicine Residency Program, he has developed quality improvement curricula for residents, clinicians, and students.
