Professional Bio
Jayant "Jay" Bagai, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). He completed his training in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In 2006, Dr. Bagai joined VUMC and the Nashville VA Medical Center, where he stayed on as faculty following completion of an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Vanderbilt. For the past 20 years, Dr. Bagai has provided high-quality and compassionate care to patients in the Nashville area, working as an Interventional Cardiologist at VUMC, Nashville VA Medical Center and Nashville General Hospital. He has also provided comprehensive cardiac care to patients across Middle Tennessee in Clarksville, Livingston, Byrdstown, Cookeville and Crossville. His area of expertise is in complex coronary interventional procedures, coronary imaging and physiology. He is an integral part of VUMC's cardiogenic shock, pulmonary embolism management and quality improvement programs. Currently, he serves in a leading role for the evaluation and cardiac optimization of patients referred to VUMC for organ transplants from across the South. He has been the principal investigator for multiple translational and outcomes research trials involving coronary imaging, physiology and Veterans health. In addition, he has served in a leading role in national level quality improvement and scientific session programs and committees, and has authored several peer-reviewed papers, including chapters in principle textbooks and publications in Interventional Cardiology. He has a Master's degree in Health Care Management from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management. He has trained generations of medical students, house staff, general and interventional cardiology trainees over the past 20 years. A consummate clinician, Dr. Bagai receives outstanding reviews from his patients for his bedside manner, accessibility, thoroughness and empathy. He is deeply committed to treating patients with respect, compassion, skill and integrity.
