Professional Bio
John Wells, MD, is Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is a general cardiologist and cardiac imaging specialist who sees patients in the clinic and on the wards at Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute.
His clinical interests include the care of cancer patients with cardiovascular disease, the intersection of inflammation and cardiovascular disease, and cardiovascular imaging, including echocardiography, nuclear imaging, and cardiac MRI. His primary academic interest is in the role of inflammation as a mediator of cardiovascular disease, particularly through novel cancer therapeutics, clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP), and rheumatologic disease. He also has a special interest in the intersection between Christian faith and medicine.
Dr. Wells graduated from the Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta before pursuing his medical residency and serving as a chief resident at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He completed his training in cardiovascular medicine with a special focus on cardio-oncology and cardiac MRI at Vanderbilt University Medical Center prior to joining the faculty.
