John Cliburn
Interests

John grew up in the small town of Cloverport, Kentucky with his parents and two younger brothers. For college, he attended Vanderbilt University where he studied biology, chemistry, history, and mathematics. He then took a gap year in Nashville where he spent his weekdays working in a cardiovascular research lab at VUMC and his weekends exploring new restaurants and concert venues. For medical school, he attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine in upstate New York where he met his amazing partner, Yeli, who will join him at Vanderbilt as a Child Neurology intern. During medical school, he discovered his passion for Hematology-Oncology and was awarded a research fellowship to study survival outcomes in allogeneic stem cell transplantation. Outside of medicine, John is a film buff, classic rock aficionado, science fiction nerd, and Kentucky Wildcats sports fanatic. He enjoys going for hikes, playing pick-up basketball and board games, and watching Jeopardy. He is incredibly excited to return to Nashville for residency.
