Professional Bio
Joseph Awad, MD, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition in the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His clinical interests center on liver disease and liver transplantation. His medical practice is based at the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System Nashville campus where he is director of the transplant center and medical director of the liver transplant program that serves much of the mid-United States.? Dr. Awad's other major interest is drug therapy and was course director for pharmacology for second year medical students at Vanderbilt University for 13 years and has been chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee of the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System for over 25 years. Recently he stepped down as? co-course director of the renal-digestion block in the first year of the medical school curriculum but continues to lecture on liver disease.
