Professional Bio
Katie White, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She graduated summa cum laude from The University of Alabama with degrees in chemistry and quantitative finance. She completed her medical and graduate school training at UAB, where her thesis work focused on understanding antibody responses to HIV-1 during infection and following vaccination. She completed her residency and fellowship training at Vanderbilt and was honored to serve as chief resident for the Internal Medicine residency program. Dr. White completed her fellowship training and joined the Division of Infectious Diseases faculty in 2017. Her clinical and research interests involve the intersection of infection and substance use disorders (SUD), with focus on developing and implementing integrated care models for patients with addiction. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Addiction Medicine and serves as the co-director for the Vanderbilt Bridge Clinic, a low-barrier, multi-specialty clinic for outpatient stabilization of high-acuity patients with SUD. She is also the founding director of a substance use disorders clinic at the Vanderbilt Comprehensive Care Clinic that serves people living with HIV. Dr. White is an accomplished educator and is involved in the training of VUMC's Infectious Diseases and Addiction Medicine fellows. She serves as the program director for the Addiction Medicine Fellowship program and has been recognized for her contributions to fellow education by the ID fellowship program. She is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and the American College of Academic Addiction Medicine.
