Professional Bio
Kelly Sopko, MD, SFHM, joined Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2007 as a Clinician Educator and is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine ant Public Health, Department of Medicine.
She assisted in the growth of the Section of Hospital Medicine at VUMC and developed the program at affiliated VA hospital, Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS). She was the founding Section Chief of Hospital Medicine at VA TVHS and developed multiple Hospitalist service lines at the TVHS Nashville campus. She currently serves as the Assistant Chief of Medical Service at VA TVHS.
In addition to programmatic development, Dr. Sopko also has a passion for quality improvement. She has led large multi-disciplinary QI projects at TVHS. Her focus has been in the inpatient hospital setting including improvement in length of stay, inpatient utilization management, documentation of discharge information, and inter-hospital transition of care. As a VA Black Belt, Dr. Sopko is actively engaged in quality improvement with Systems Redesign at TVHS.
She also serves as a core faculty member of the VUMC Internal Medicine Residency program. Dr. Sopko is also committed to development of future physician leaders in QI as she is the site co-director of the VA TVHS Chief Resident in Quality and Safety (CRQS) program. She is also an active member of the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM), a Senior Fellow in Hospital Medicine (SFHM).
