Professional Bio
Kimberly J. Beiting, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Geriatric Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). Dr. Beiting received her Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Human Development from the University of Chicago and her medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She completed her residency at the McGaw Northwestern Family Medicine Residency Program in Humboldt Park and went on to complete her clinical Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at the University of Chicago, with an additional research year in Geriatrics through the University of Chicago Postdoctoral Program in Clinical Research and Medical Informatics (TL1). Her primary clinical and research interests center around the care of older adults with substance use disorders. She has published on and presented nationally on the care of older adults with substance use disorders. She is Co-chair of the American Geriatrics Society Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Use Special Interest Group. She is a current recipient of the HRSA-sponsored Geriatric Academic Career Award, focusing on teaching best practice age-friendly care for older adults with substance use disorders. Additionally, Dr. Beiting helped re-launch the Geriatric Medicine Consult Service and developed the Transition to Nursing Home Consult Service at VUMC, and also serves as medical director for these services. She practices clinically in outpatient geriatric primary care, attends on the inpatient geriatric consult service, and has a clinic within the Vanderbilt addiction clinics.
