Lamiya was born in Bangladesh, but moved to Lafayette, Louisiana when she was five, where she and her brother were raised. She fell in love with the South, and decided to continue her time in Louisiana at Tulane University in New Orleans, where she studied neuroscience and philosophy (+ crawfish, jazz, mardi gras, and Saints football). After college, she moved to Philadelphia where she met her husband, Jay, and was converted into a Philly sports fan (go Eagles!). In her free time, she loves to cook, hike with her dog Charlie Rodriguez, kayak, and watch excessive amounts of TV! In medical school, she taught a course about social justice in medicine, and she is excited to explore her passion for both medical education & health policy at Vanderbilt. She hopes to pursue a career in cardiology and looks forward to learning from and working with her new colleagues!
