Makayla Brunt, MD

Housestaff

Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health

PGY1 - Wilson County

Makayla Brunt
Interests

Makayla grew up on a Boy Scout camp in south-central Michigan. She attended the University of Michigan where she earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and a master's degree in chemistry. During her time there, she conducted research on fatty liver disease, which sparked her passion for translational research and deepened her interest in the intersection of science and patient care. After earning her degrees, Makayla worked at the Michigan Brain Bank and the Michigan Alzheimer's Disease Research Center studying neurodegenerative diseases. Through this work, she developed a deep appreciation for pathology and biomedical research while realizing that her greatest passion was caring directly for patients. Makayla attended Central Michigan University College of Medicine, where she became actively involved in free clinics, clinical education research, and mentorship. She is interested in medical oncology and cancer survivorship but remains open to other subspecialties. She looks forward to caring for patients in Tennessee and serving the community by providing thoughtful, evidence-based care. Outside of medicine, Makayla enjoys reading, spin classes and the beach.
