Mariana was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico where she attended Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon School of Medicine. During her journey as a medical student, she found her passion for internal medicine and discovered how clinical research could improve patients’ outcomes and experiences. This motivated her to move to Rochester, Minnesota to pursue a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in the Lupus Midwest Network (LUMEN) Lab. As a post-doc fellow, she collaborated with her team to study the use of glucocorticoids in systemic lupus erythematosus and the impact of antiphospholipid antibodies on disease phenotype. In the future, she hopes to pursue a fellowship in Rheumatology and shape a career in research to study epidemiology, social determinants of health, and improve the outcomes of patients with chronic rheumatic diseases. In her spare time, Mariana enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, hiking, and binge-watching comedy (The Office!) and true-crime TV shows. Mariana is beyond excited to join the Vanderbilt Family in Nashville and begin her internal medicine residency training!
