Matthew is from Nashville, Tennessee, and was born at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He attended the University of Notre Dame, where he studied mathematics and Italian. After graduation, he spent a year in Sardinia, Italy, as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant, where he taught high school students and deepened his appreciation for Italian language and culture. During this time, he met his wife, Grace, a Peabody graduate and special education teacher in Nashville. He then returned to Tennessee for medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, where he cared for patients from across Tennessee and the broader South. Matthew and Grace are excited to remain in Tennessee and begin this next chapter at Vanderbilt. Fun fact: Michael lived in Sardinia for a year before medical school and met his wife there.
