Matthew grew up in the small town of Watertown, Tennessee with his parents and two younger brothers. As a high school student, he first became interested in medicine while working in a clinical pharmacology lab at VUMC. For college, he attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (Go Vols!) where he studied biochemistry and engaged in basic science research in neuroscience. While in medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, he spent time researching cardiometabolic risk markers associated with prediabetes and metabolic syndrome. He also enjoyed teaching and volunteering at the free student-run clinic. He discovered his fascination with molecular profiling while on a rotation in medical oncology which now leads his clinical interests. Outside of medicine, Matthew enjoys weightlifting, swimming, his church community, and anything Volunteer sports. He is incredibly excited to return to Nashville and care for the people of middle Tennessee!
