Mert was born and raised in Turkey, where he completed his medical education at Hacettepe University. After graduation, he moved to Nashville to join the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Vanderbilt as a postdoctoral research fellow. Over the past two years, he has conducted clinical studies focused on salt-sensitive hypertension and mitochondrial dysfunction in chronic kidney disease and heart failure. His long-term goal is to become a clinician scientist focusing on cardio-kidney-metabolic health. Outside of the hospital, Mert enjoys cycling through the beautiful nature of Nashville and flying his small model airplanes. He is thrilled to continue his journey as a resident and work with the amazing people at Vanderbilt.
