Interests

Monika was born and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia and attended the University of Virginia, where she majored in biomedical engineering and minored in computer science. She earned her MD and PhD in Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University. Her doctoral research focused on computational drug repurposing for Alzheimer's disease and developing tools for electronic health record-based phenotyping. She is excited to continue her training at Vanderbilt as she pursues a career as a physician-scientist. Her professional interests include gastroenterology, understanding the role of the gut microbiome in human health and disease, and using biomedical informatics and large-scale clinical data to advance translational research. Outside of work, Monika enjoys being outdoors, indoor rock climbing, trying new bakeries, and spending time with her cat, Ellen. Fun fact: Monika speaks Polish!
