Professional Bio
L. Nicholas Herrera, MD DTM&H, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He graduated from medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine and completed internship and residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston before returning to UAB for his infectious disease fellowship. He currently serves as Medical Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship at Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital and Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital as well as Associate Medical Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship at Vanderbilt University Hospital. He leads the division's Travel and Tropical/Geographic Medicine efforts and has clinical interests in management of orthopedic infections. Dr. Herrera is involved as an educator in the School of Medicine, Internal Medicine Residency Program, and the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program. Additionally, he is co-founder of the ID Fellows Cup, an educational game played by ID fellows nationally and internationally.
