Riley was born and raised in southwest Michigan, where she most enjoyed spending summers on the lakes with her siblings. As an undergraduate at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!), she studied Biology and Spanish but most pivotally discovered her love of cancer research (… and her now husband, Chandler). She then moved to Nashville to join the MD/PhD program at Vanderbilt. Her dissertation focused on the role of the splicing factor SF3B1 in breast cancer, and she looks forward to staying at VUMC to continue building a career as an academic oncologist-scientist in the Harrison Society. Outside of medicine, Riley enjoys running, baking, and exploring Nashville restaurants!
