Professional Bio
Samira Shojaee, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Her clinical areas of expertise include interventional pulmonology with a broad range of diagnostic, therapeutic and palliative airway and pleural procedures, lung cancer and pleural diseases. Dr. Shojaee received her medical degree from Comenius University in Slovakia. After completing her fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, she joined Virginia Commonwealth University for a fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology and remained at VCU as faculty, where she also served as the Director of Interventional Pulmonology Fellowship Program. During her first years as faculty, she completed her Master in Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health with a focus on biostatistics and epidemiology. Dr. Shojaee serves on several committees for the American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physician, and American Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology. She is the recipient of the 2018 CHEST foundation grant in lung cancer and numerous awards in education from the American College of Chest Physicians among others. Her research is focused on pleural carcinogenesis, biomarkers of malignant and non-malignant pleural effusion, and lung cancer. She has led numerous clinical and translational investigator-initiated research projects and is the founder of the V-PEAK pleural fluid biobank at Vanderbilt. She is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology.
