Sean Kelly, MD

Associate Professor of Medicine

Division of Infectious Diseases

Medical Director, VCCC Clinic

Sean Kelly
Professional Bio
Sean Kelly, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and Medical Director of the Vanderbilt Comprehensive Care Clinic (VCCC). He is a Detroit-native and completed his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Michigan. He completed his Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship training at Northwestern University. There, he led several cohort studies examining age-related chronic conditions among persons with HIV, particularly cardiovascular disease. He joined the Vanderbilt Division of Infectious Diseases in 2016. Shortly after his arrival and observing the relatively low availability of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV in Nashville (and the Southeast in general), Dr. Kelly began the Vanderbilt PrEP Program. Through involvement with the Southeast AIDS Education and Training Center, Dr. Kelly has directed HIV prevention education, which has contributed to increased PrEP uptake throughout the Southeast region. At VUMC, Dr. Kelly continues to lead research with national cohorts, including the Multicenter AIDS Cohort and AIDS Clinical Trials Group. His passion, however, remains the clinical care of his patients. He has received the Excellence in Patient Experience Award for his outstanding care, which he provides for patients at the VCCC and both the inpatient HIV service and Infectious Diseases consultation service.
