Professional Bio
Suzanne Sharpton, MD, is a general and transplant hepatologist with expertise in managing many types of chronic liver disease. She works closely with members of the Vanderbilt Liver Transplant program in order to provide care to patients in need of liver transplantation.
Dr. Sharpton completed fellowships in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology at the University of California San Francisco. She completed residency in internal medicine at UCSF, during which she was selected to be a chief medical resident due to her teaching and leadership skills. She earned her medical degree with distinction from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where she completed an additional year of clinical research training in the Doris Duke fellowship program. She obtained a master's degree in clinical research from UCSF. She is board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and transplant hepatology.
As an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Sharpton supervises the training of residents and fellows in hepatology and liver transplant medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Sharpton's research focuses on biomarkers in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. She has received numerous awards to support her research program, including support from the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. She is a member of several professional societies, including the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and the American Gastroenterology Association.
