Professional Bio
Tom Flynn, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine Division of Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt Health.
After completing undergraduate training in Environmental Studies with an emphasis on human health at Bates College, he earned his medical degree at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine where he was a Global Health Scholar and conducted community-engaged research in rural Honduras. Following residency training in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Flynn completed a three-year Infectious Diseases fellowship program at the University of Virginia where he studied enteric infections as well as diagnostics for acute febrile illness (AFI) in the Peruvian Amazon.
He joined the Vanderbilt faculty in 2026. His clinical, research, and medical education interests include vector-borne and zoonotic infections, international and tropical medicine, and ecologic and climatic drivers of infection emergence.
