Professional Bio
William Martinez, MD, MSc, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
He received his MD degree from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and an MS degree from the University of California Berkeley (UCB) School of Public Health as part of the UCB-UCSF joint medical program. He completed residency training in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) where he served as a Chief Medical Resident. After residency, Dr. Martinez completed health services research and medical ethics training as a Fellow in General Medicine and Medical Ethics at BWH and Harvard Medical School. At the conclusion of his fellowship training, he joined the Vanderbilt faculty.
Dr. Martinez conducts foundation, NIH, and AHRQ funded research in the areas of professionalism, patient safety culture, and use of health information technology to support chronic disease management and disease prevention. He maintains an active primary care general internal medicine practice, and serves a clinic preceptor for internal medicine residents.
