VUMC joins $31 million project to speed new TB therapies

Sweeping data integration and clinical trial simulations are needed to help decide which targets to prioritize in researching new tuberculosis treatment regimens. Kelly Dooley, MD, PhD, MPH, the Addison B. Scoville, Jr. Professor of Medicine and director of the Division of Infectious Diseases and at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, is one of four co-principal investigators for the five-year multicenter project.

State of the Department of Medicine address highlights tremendous growth

Department of Medicine clinicians see patients in 19 counties across Middle Tennessee as well as the surrounding region. There were 86,096 outpatient visits for fiscal year 2024, an increase of more than 25,000 visits over fiscal year 2023. 

Jane Freedman, MD, professor of Medicine and interim chair of the Department of Medicine, delivered the annual State of the Department address on June 20, highlighting those who form the department and celebrating major achievements in the past year.

International overview of colorectal cancer provides multidisciplinary perspective of clinical advances

Cathy Eng, MD (Hematology and Oncology), is corresponding author of a paper published last week in The Lancet that provides an overview on treatment advances, clinical trials, incidence trends and ongoing challenges related to colorectal cancer, the third most diagnosed cancer in the world.
