Ravi Shah named to co-direct Vanderbilt Diabetes Center

A lifelong passion for training and mentoring generations of endocrinologists has culminated in an endowment to support a new endocrinology fellowship in the Department of Medicine’s Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism. This is the result of an estate gift from the late Lawrence (Larry) Wolfe, MD, a Vanderbilt University School of Medicine alumnus and former faculty member, and his wife, Sarah (Sally) Wolfe.

Salmon Jr. Faculty Teaching Award and Dr. Morvant has received the William J. Kovacs Endocrine Fellow Award. Both are outstanding and compassionate physicians, and we are grateful for their dedication and excellence.
Congratulations to Dr. Carranza Leon for recognition during the 2025 Spring faculty awards ceremony. She was awarded the John S. Sergent Award For Teaching Medical or Graduate Students in the Small Group Setting.
Three Department of Medicine faculty are among the 13 new members inducted into the AEE. They are: Lindsay Bischoff, MD (Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism), Barbara Gisella Carranza Leon, MD (Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism), Megan Dupuis, MD, PhD (Hematology and Oncology).
The number of adults living with diabetes has surpassed 800 million, and the World Health Organization has called the escalating prevalence of Type 2 diabetes an epidemic.
An interim plan has been announced to fill the roles held by Alvin C. Powers, MD, in Vanderbilt’s Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism.
Danielle Dean, PhD, assistant professor of Medicine in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, has received the Robert L. Sorenson Young Investigator Award from the Midwest Islet Club (MIC) in recognition of her research excellence and innovation in the field of islet research.
