Justine Vella
Professional Bio
Justine Vella, MD, MBA, is a clinical fellow in the Department of Medicine’s Division of Geriatric Medicine at Vanderbilt Health. She was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, where an early appreciation for science, service, and community inspired her to pursue a career in medicine. Dr. Vella earned an undergraduate degree from York University before pursuing medical education at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in St. Kitts. Graduating with Highest Honors, Dr. Vella demonstrated a strong commitment to academic excellence, clinical leadership and patient-centered care. Committed to advancing both clinical expertise and healthcare leadership, Dr. Vella also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in Healthcare Administration from Walden University. This additional training has strengthened an understanding of healthcare systems, organizational leadership, quality improvement, and the delivery of efficient, patient-centered care. Following medical school, Dr. Vella completed a Family Medicine Residency at The University of Alabama, with a specialized focus in Hospital Medicine. This training provided extensive experience in managing complex acute and chronic medical conditions across patient populations, while fostering a comprehensive, holistic approach to healthcare. Dr. Vella has a particular interest in geriatric medicine and is dedicated to improving the health, independence, and quality of life of older adults. Outside of medicine, Dr. Vella enjoys a variety of creative and recreational pursuits, including music, sculpting, baking, traveling and hiking. These interests provide balance and inspiration while reinforcing a lifelong appreciation for learning, creativity and cultural exploration. Dr. Vella is committed to delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care and building meaningful relationships with patients through empathy, communication, and clinical excellence. By combining expertise in family medicine, hospital medicine, geriatric care, and healthcare administration, Dr. Vella seeks to improve patient outcomes while advancing high-quality healthcare systems.
