Professional Bio
Rachael Waks Petry, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatric Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
She earned her medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and did an internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt, where she served as a Hugh J. Morgan Chief Resident. She subsequently completed a geriatric medicine fellowship at the University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Petry's main interests include medical education and teaching communication skills to residents and students to practice more informed, patient-centered care. Her clinical interests are broad and include fall prevention and the balance between patient-priorities care and evidence-based practice. She joined the faculty in 2022, and she currently serves as the course director for the Geriatric Medicine Acting Internship at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
She divides her clinical time between the Acute Care for the Elderly Unit (where she is also serving as Medical Director), the Geriatric Medicine Consult Service, and the General Medicine service at the Nashville VA Hospital.
