Vanderbilt University -- Junior to Mid-level Physician-Scientists Faculty position in Aging Research

The Vanderbilt University Medical Center is seeking junior to mid-level physician-scientists for the Division of Geriatrics or for a joint appointment with another Division in the Department of Medicine. Expected research activities in aging would be basic or translational in nature, and could involve the development and use of animal models for hypothesis testing and translational studies. Applicants should be board-certified and have substantial post-graduate training highlighted by peer-reviewed publications that demonstrate research productivity. Successful candidates would be expected to establish and maintain an independently-funded research program as well as participate in the teaching of graduate and medical students. Applications from physician-scientists with Board Certification in either Geriatric Medicine or another complementary Medicine subspecialty (which would be recruited and appointed jointly with another Division in the Department of Medicine) are encouraged.  While a Geriatric Medicine certification would help support the clinical mission of the Division of Geriatrics and allow the faculty to retain a clinical perspective to ground their research, our main goal is to recruit candidates who will work on areas of aging research that complement existing research strengths in the Department of Medicine (ranked second nationally in NIH funding). Examples are Alzheimer’s and diabetes, autophagy-proteostasis contributions to aging, immune senescence and inflammaging, Klotho biology and regulation of aging phenotypes, stem cell senescence and the secretory pathway in aging, epigenetics of aging, vascular aging, and mitochondria; these areas are not all inclusive, but representative.  A competitive start-up package and laboratory space are available.

The Division of Geriatric Medicine is recruiting outstanding candidates for the following positions:
Clinician-Educators, Physician-Scientists (M.D., M.D./Ph.D.), and
Clinical Geriatricians to join our new and rapidly expanding Program. 

These Assistant and Associate Professor level faculty appointments will be in the Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine.

Clinician-Educators should have evidence for teaching experience and exhibit a strong desire to be involved in education of medical students, residents and fellows. An academic Clinician-Educator (CE) track position is 80% clinical, with additional responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, quality improvement, and administration.

Physician-Scientist applicants should have substantial post-graduate training highlighted by peer-reviewed publications that demonstrate research productivity, and successful candidates will be expected to establish and maintain an independent research program as well as participate in the teaching of graduate and medical students. A Physician-Scientist (PS) track position provides 80% time for research in collaboration across diverse disciplines.

Clinically focused Geriatricians can be involved in-patient care in venues ranging from an in-patient Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) unit and a Geriatrics Consult Service, to several skilled nursing facilities, ambulatory care clinics, with an emphasis on transitions-of-care.
