The Division of Geriatric Medicine is recruiting an outstanding candidate for the position of Clinician-Educator.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center is recruiting an experienced and Board-Certified Geriatrician to serve as a SNF physician within two skilled nursing facilities affiliated with the Medical Center. The physician will be involved in patient care in these two skilled nursing facilities with an emphasis on transitions-of-care, post-acute rehabilitation, and long-term care.

This Assistant or Associate Professor level faculty appointment will reside in the Department of Medicine (/), Division of Geriatric Medicine.  The Department is part of the highly collaborative environment at Vanderbilt University (https://vanderbilt.edu/), which provides a strong and collegial setting for interdisciplinary clinical teams, prolific research collaborations, and the development of innovative educational initiatives at all levels.

Clinician-Educators should have evidence of teaching experience and exhibit a strong desire to be involved in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. An academic Clinician- Educator (CE) track position is 80% clinical, with additional responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, quality improvement, and administration.

The Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Division of Geriatric Medicine within the Department of Medicine is seeking a full-time geriatrician physician-scientist tenure/tenure-track candidate for a faculty position at any rank. 

The Department resides in the highly collaborative environment at Vanderbilt University, which provides a strong and collegial environment for interdisciplinary clinical teams, fruitful research collaborations, and the development of innovative educational initiatives at all levels. Expected research activities in aging would be in translational studies or health services research.  

Candidates must possess an MD or MD/PhD or equivalent in a relevant field of Geriatrics. Applicants must be board certified or eligible in geriatrics and able to obtain medical licensure in Tennessee. The appointed faculty will maintain a productive, independently funded research program and provide direct patient care and actively participate in the teaching of graduate and medical students. The physician-scientist track provides approximately 80% of the time for research in collaboration with established investigators in health services research, clinical epidemiology, quality improvement, patient safety, behavioral sciences, and biomedical informatics. The candidate would join a growing Division of Geriatric Medicine comprising physicians, research scientists, advanced practice nurses, gerontologists, and a clinical pharmacist.

Physician-Scientist applicants should have substantial post-graduate training highlighted by peer-reviewed publications that demonstrate research productivity, and successful candidates will be expected to establish and maintain an independent research program as well as participate in the teaching of graduate and medical students. A Physician-Scientist track position provides 80% of time for research in collaboration across diverse disciplines. 

Clinically focused Geriatricians can be involved in in-patient care in venues ranging from an in-patient Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) unit and a Geriatrics Consult Service to several skilled nursing facilities, and ambulatory care clinics, with an emphasis on transitions-of-care. 

The Divisions of Infectious Diseases (ID) and Geriatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) have an immediate opening for an HIV researcher (MD, MD/PhD, or PhD) to join our faculty as a member of our growing HIV and Aging Research Program.

Successful candidates will join a thriving and highly collaborative research and clinical community. Our ID Division is home to the Tennessee Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), a four-way partnership between Vanderbilt, Meharry Medical College, Tennessee Department of Health, and Nashville CARES, and with an NIH-funded research base of >$20 million. Substantial HIV-related programs led by ID Division faculty members include the Caribbean, Central and South America network for HIV epidemiology (CCASAnet), the Southeast AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC), a President's Emergency Program for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) program in Mozambique, a site for the CFAR Network of Integrated Clinical Systems (CNICS), clinical research sites for both HVTN and ACTG (including leadership of the ACTG’s Human Genomics Core), and the Regional Prospective Observational Research in Tuberculosis (RePORT)-Brazil. Broadly, our research in HIV and Aging aims to improve the health status and quality of life of adults aging with HIV through domestic and international epidemiological, clinical, and translational studies. Our work in HIV and Aging has included investigation into the effects of immune senescence, inflammation, mitochondrial genotype and function, and key coinfections on outcomes such as vaccine response, frailty, neurocognition, metabolic disease, cardiovascular disease, and multimorbidity more generally.

Vanderbilt is home to the Vanderbilt Comprehensive Care Clinic (VCCC), which serves as the HIV treatment center and primary care medical home to almost 4,000 clients living with HIV (~half are over the age of 50). VCCC offers a unique experience to participate in the clinical care of a large cohort of aging clients with HIV and in research utilizing data from this cohort.

Our Geriatrics division is a dynamic clinical and research arena. The Vanderbilt Center for Quality Aging, part of the Institute of Medicine and Public Health, is focused on the development and evaluation of clinical interventions to improve quality of care and quality of life for older patients across the continuum of care, with current projects focused on improving the quality of care transitions and patient-centered deprescribing interventions to reduce polypharmacy and improve associated health outcomes. Our affiliated VA Hospital (Tennessee Valley Healthcare System) includes one of 22 VA Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Centers (GRECC) and one of 11 National VA Quality Scholars Fellowship programs.
