The Department of Medicine is excited to share the results of the 2024 National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Match, which were made public on Friday, March 15, during the highly anticipated Match Day celebrations.
The Internal Medicine Residency Program successfully matched its full allotment of 47 categorical interns, in addition to four American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM)/Harrison Society Research Pathway residents and two preliminary interns.
Included in the upcoming intern class are seven Vanderbilt students and four international medical graduates. In addition, 49% of the class is female and 20% self-identify as underrepresented in medicine, which is higher than the proportion in the overall applicant pool.
In collaboration with the departments of Pediatrics, Neurology and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), the department recruited six Medicine-Pediatrics residents, seven Neurology residents and four PM&R residents. In total, the department interviewed 480 of the 3,100 total applicants.
“The internal medicine residency program had a wonderful recruiting season,” said John McPherson, MD, Department of Medicine Vice Chair for Education and professor of in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. “This year’s match exceeded our high expectations, and we are grateful to everyone in the Department of Medicine for their efforts to produce such an outstanding result!”
